LANC
A total of 430 Avro Lancaster Mk. X's were built in Canada by Victory Aircraft Limited at Malton, Ontario.
Upon seeing his first Lancaster an American officer summed it all up. “It’s a flying bomb bay!”
Bill took sons Dave and Rob to a moth-balled Lancaster turning a weapon of war into a child's plaything.

Life or Death Birthdays
December 1, 1969, was the first draft lottery held since 1942, during World War II. This drawing determined the order of induction for men born between January 1, 1944 and December 31, 1950. A large glass container held 366 blue plastic balls containing every possible birth date that affected men between 18 and 26 years old.

1969 lottery numbers for 19 year old men
were called at a rate of 30 per month
during the first half of 1970. For example,
a man with a #131 was ordered to report
for his Physical Exam in February 1970
and classified 1-A, then ordered to report
for Induction into the US Army in May 1970.
With the maximum of 30 numbers being
drafted per month in early-1970, May’s quota
of 30 ended up drafting men with the numbers
...#121 through #150.
Following Basic Combat Training a draftee might find himself in the Vietnam war zone as his first duty assignment, less than six months after entering "Basic".

History of Advertising
In the late 1970s, Montreal's Radio Loyola (RL) made good money putting on "BEER BASHES" in the Gadange Lounge and at campus concerts.
Radio Loyola alumni, Don Weekes, states "One of my fondest memories was when RL put on a winter carnival concert with George Thorogood. If it wasn't his first concert in Canada, it was one of his very first.

Thorogood's band got stuck at the border on that snowy winter night. They were delayed by two hours. Everyone waited. And why not. We were warm. And drinking and smoking pot heavily.
As I recall, the band arrived almost without notice. They jumped on stage, as ready to play for us as we were for them.
I can't recall their first song, only that in that instant, half the audience rushed the stage to dance. That scene is imprinted in my brain forever. It was like a movie. To this day, it's the best rock concert - any size, any venue - I've ever seen.
During the late 1970s and early 1980s, Dave had worked at most major radio stations CHOM, CKGM, CFCF, CFQR ending up at CJAD working with the best in the business.
But the best of the best was my radio syndication and big band promoter partner Gordon Courtney and the noble Paul Reid.
